SHAFAQNA– Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, Seyyed Ammar al-Hakim expresses his support for remarks made by Supreme Religious Authority Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani, where he insisted on the rights of the Iraqi protestors. Hakim says his movement still maintains its stance as the opposition party.
The Shia politician reminded people that the National Wisdom Movement was among the first groups that raised the flag of opposition against the policies of the government in Baghdad. He adds that the NWM believes in the necessity of a system to oversight the government and the presence of political opponents and proponents, which would preserve the strength of political system.
Ammar al-Hakim added that we echo the position of the Supreme Religious Authority that was expressed on Friday October 1, 2019, specially his insistence on respecting the demands of the Iraqi demonstrators regarding political and administrative system of their country.
Al-Hakim urged the Iraqi protesters to avoid any violence during the demonstrations and refrain from damaging public infrastructures and private properties.
The Shia cleric also requested the Iraqi security forces to provide the protesters with a secure situation and show the highest level of order and coordination, and prevent the enemies of Iraq to take an opportunity from the current situation (to damage the country).
