Sunni, Shia Muslims pray together every Friday at Heydar Mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan

SHAFAQNA- About 3500 Shia and Sunni Muslims pray together every Friday at Heydar Mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan, showing the possibility of harmony and peace.

The Heydar Mosque in Baku is the biggest Mosque of the South Caucasus. The height of the ceiling of the mosque is 55 meters, the height of the dome is 95 meters. At the same time seven thousand prayers can pray in the Mosque which is officially opened by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in 2014, ednews told.

“Not only the magnificence of the Mosque, the modern style of local architects and Tabriz carpets drew my attention. Mostly I’m impressed by the unity prayer of Sunni and Shia Muslims on holidays”, the Editor-in-Chief of the Al-Shurooq newspaper writes.

Azerbaijanis don’t divide people according to religious affiliation. The Sunni and Shia Muslims are tolerant and there is solidarity between them. The Republic of Azerbaijan is a Muslim majority country.

According to some sources, more than 85 percent of the people of the country are Shia Muslims while Sunni Muslims make up nearly 15 percent of the total population, Iqna reported.
