Joseph Kobzon, Russian singer, challenges his blacklisting by Latvia’s foreign ministry

SHAFAQNA- Russian popular singer Joseph Kobzon has challenged with the Constitutional Court of Latvia the Latvian foreign ministry’s decision to blacklist him as an unwanted person, Kobzon’s lawyer Baiba Didrikhisone said on Friday.

The Constitutional Court received Kobzon’s motion on December 15 and will consider it within a month. In an interview with Latvia’s radio, Kobzon’s lawyer said that the singer was seeking to revoke the norm of the law on immigration under which his motion to review the decision to blacklist him had been turned down.

In the summer of 2014 just ahead of the international pop singers; contest New Wave in Latvia’s Jurmala, Joseph Kobzon, along with a number of other Russian poplar singers, was banned from entry to Latvia. In the autumn, this blacklist was supplemented by a number of other Russian men of culture.
