Jihadists kill thousands in one month

SHAFAQNA – Self-styled jihadists killed more than 5,000 people last month, according to a survey seeking to quantify the impact of Islamic extremist groups. The data, gathered by the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, at King’s College London, showed that the overwhelming majority of the victims were Muslims and more than half were civilians.

A total of 664 jihadist attacks were recorded across 14 countries, causing the deaths of 5,042 people. The death toll was equivalent to three 7/7 attacks a day. Eighty per cent of the deaths were in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Islamic State was responsible for the most deaths, at 2,206.

· A jihadist website yesterday published a picture that purported to show the Isis member who killed a number of western hostages, including the Britons Alan Henning and David Haines. The image of a masked man with a large knife was tweeted by a French jihadist. “A day with Jihadi John, may the eyes of cowards never sleep,” it said.
