Iraq: New initiative to overcome the country’s political stalemate

SHAFAQNA- The Fatah Coalition’s board member and political observers revealed that a coordination framework is being prepared to offer a new initiative to overcome the country’s political stalemate, Al-Sabah wrote.

Observers stated that the initiative being prepared for the coordination framework was different from the previous one, noting that the purpose of the coordination framework in presenting the initiative was not to obtain a post and nominate a prime minister to form a government, but, the protection of Shia rights through the formation of a majority faction from the representatives of the coordination framework and the Sadr movement.

The head of the Fatah faction in the Iraqi parliament, told the Iraqi Al-Sabah newspaper: “Coordination framework meetings have been held to pressure the tripartite coalition to find a way out of the political stalemate. The framework is prepared to present a new initiative aimed at converging views and is different from the previous one.”

“The changes that took place in the political arena and the crisis of political stalemate and the need to approve the budget and other laws related to the country’s economy, has made the formation of the government an urgent need. Because that was the purpose of the early elections, and its delay is not in the interest of Iraq and the political process, and we must work around the clock to converge our views and accelerate the formation of the government,” He added.

He noted: “All political factions, especially the winning parties, have had enough time after the election to form a coalition and to reconsider and consult, so we must accelerate the implementation of coalitions and the formation of a government.”

Stressing that the new initiative includes the integration of the coordination framework and the Sadr movement, and that this movement will have the upper position because it won the elections, he said: “The new initiative will clearly yield a coordination framework and end the political stalemate.”
