Pope Francis speaks words of peace for Syria

SHAFAQNA –  Pope Francis expressed hope that cessation of fighting actions in Syria would lead to ending the five year-long crisis.

Cessation of fighting actions started last Friday midnight in an implementation of the Russian-US agreement which was adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council in accordance with resolution No. 2268.

In a prayer ceremony at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, the Pope called on all people to pray for alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people through encouraging the delivery of the necessary humanitarian aid and opening the way for dialogue and peace.

Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called on the international community, in a joint statement signed after meeting in Havana on February 12, to unify its stance in facing terrorism and violence.
