SHAFAQNA – Imam Ali (AS) said: The seekers of knowledge are in three groups. Recognise them by their inward and outward appearances and their particular nature and characteristics. A group of scholars seek knowledge to show off and bother others, they learn to argue and practice ignorance. Another group use knowledge to exaggerate and deceive others and the third group learn to understand and act on their knowledge.
Those who show off and pretend to be righteous have no fear of God in their hearts and are not pious, God will break the back of such scholars and will defeat them. Those who deceive people and are selfish towards them and other scholars but are courteous towards rich ones in order to gain from their wealth and ignore the religion, God will make them blind and their works will be obscure with no effect.
But the third type of scholars who learn to understand and practice their knowledge, they are anxious, they wake up in the middle of the night to seek knowledge and to worship Allah (SWT). Despite all their prayers, they fear God and stay connected with their trusted brothers. God will strengthen the bases of the lives of such scholars and they are saved on the Day of Judgment .
