Iraqi rights group demanded fuel price cuts

SHAFAQNA- Head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights, Fadhel Al-Gharawi, has demanded the Iraqi government and Ministry of Oil to decrease fuel prices as high prices are putting strain on Iraqis’ finances.

On Saturday, al-Gharawi, in a statement, said that the average Iraqi citizen is trying hard to make ends meet because of the rising cost of living, including fuel prices. He stated that the price of gasoline in Iraq is remarkably higher than in other countries in the region.

According to recent data, the average salary is highly variable across various sectors and governorates in Iraq. The oil and gas industry offers higher-than-average wages but other sectors such as education, healthcare, and public service have lower salary scales.

Also, the difference in income is affected by factors such as education level, experience, and geographical location. Besides, higher wages are typically offered in urban areas compared to rural regions.
