Thuha Jabbar, a 30-year-old dentist originally from Iraq, shares her journey of moving to London, establishing a successful dental practice in Northwest London, and balancing her professional ambitions with motherhood. Initially, Thuha did not envision herself as a practice owner, aspiring instead to further her education in restorative dentistry. However, an unexpected opportunity arose when she inquired about a part-time position and was offered the chance to purchase the practice. Embracing this challenge, Thuha successfully integrated her passion for academia into her practice, navigating the responsibilities of business ownership while ensuring top-notch patient care. Despite the demanding nature of the role, she finds immense satisfaction in shaping the practice according to her vision and being her own boss.
Thuha’s story is also deeply influenced by her upbringing, where her refugee parents, particularly her father, instilled a strong emphasis on education. This focus on academic excellence propelled her determination and achievements. Motherhood brought a profound shift in her perspective, making her acutely aware of the responsibilities and joys it entails. Thuha also cherishes the close relationship she had with her mother-in-law, who provided unwavering support and love, serving as a model for how to treat extended family.
