Iraqi PM visits Tehran for talks with Iranian officials

Shafaqna English- The Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani discussed on Wednesday (08 Jan 2025) collaborative efforts within the framework of bilateral agreements and a constructive partnership.

During their meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran, Al-Sudani led an Iraqi delegation in broadened bilateral discussions, where Pezeshkian headed a team of senior Iranian officials to address areas of economic cooperation between Iraq and Iran.

Iraqi PM and Iranian President review regional developments

Iranian President expressed that boosting Iran-Iraq relations would undoubtedly strengthen the region and the Islamic world, adding, “If we act according to the Book of God, based on justice, and follow the path of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) and the Ahlul-Bayt (AH), there will be no discord or interruption in our relations.”

He stated that the geographical locations of Iran and Iraq are unique for forming a regional economic hub, emphasizing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to collaborate with Iraq on building a joint economic zone.

President Pezeshkian expressed hope that the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, to Iran, will strengthen relations between the two countries and contribute to peace, security, stability, and economic development in the region, adding, “I aspire to see Islamic countries engage with one another in all political, economic, and cultural areas, functioning as a unified nation.”

Al-Sudani, for his part, expressed appreciation for the assistance and support of the Islamic Republic of Iran towards the Iraqi government and its people, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to implementing the agreements and cooperation programs established between the two countries, particularly in the areas of railway and road projects, the construction of a joint economic zone along the border, as well as gas and electricity initiatives.

He underscored Iraq’s interest in the participation of Iranian companies in executing infrastructure projects within the country.

Iraqi PM meets with Iran’s Supreme Leader in Tehran

Leader of the Islamic Revolution the Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani urged Iraq to stand against the illegal presence of USA’s occupation military seriously.

During the meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, the Supreme Leader called the USA’s military presence in Iraq “illegal” which is contrary to the interests of the Iraqi people and government, and emphasized that circumstantial evidence indicates that Americans are trying to stabilize and expand their presence in Iraq.

The Leader referred to the good relationship between the Iraqi government and the people of this country and termed unity, amity, and cohesion among the different religions and ethnicities of Iraq “very necessary and important”.

Iraqi PM visits Iran’s holy city of Mashhad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, who is on an official visit to Iran, has traveled to the city of Mashhad which hosts the holy shrine of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza (AS).

The Iraqi prime minister arrived in Mashhad, the capital city of Razavi Khorasan Province, on Wednesday evening and was welcomed by officials of the north-eastern Iranian province.

Al-Sudani is scheduled to visit the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and hold bilateral meetings with provincial officials.
