Shafaqna English- Morocco and Russia are advancing their strategic cooperation in the global Halal market through new certification efforts signalling broader ambitions to expand exports and meet growing demand for Halal-compliant products, Morocco World News reported.
Morocco and Russia are reinforcing bilateral ties in the Halal industry with a focus on certification and trade. Tatarstan’s Committee for Halal Standards, operating under Russia’s Spiritual Administration of Muslims, is pursuing Moroccan accreditation to facilitate Halal product exports to the North African nation.
Tatarstan’s Committee Chairman, Abbas Shlyaposhnikov, confirmed applications had been submitted to Morocco among other countries, with plans for steady progress through 2025.
Morocco, already active in the global halal sector, continues to broaden its international reach. At the 2024 Halal Morocco Forum, Abderrahim Taibi of IMANOR emphasized Africa’s potential in the $2 trillion global halal market. During the same event, Morocco signed a mutual recognition agreement with Singapore, building on its 2020 halal export deal with Russia.
The country has also strengthened Halal import standards, requiring imported meats to meet Islamic guidelines and pass rigorous risk assessments by ONSSA. Only countries with recognized religious certifiers can export meat to Morocco.
For Russia, and particularly Tatarstan, Moroccan accreditation could unlock access to a growing halal consumer base. Tatarstan aims to boost its halal exports to $15 million in 2025, with 250 certified producers and expanding international credentials, including GAC recognition.
This evolving Morocco-Russia partnership underscores both countries’ ambitions to become influential players in the expanding Halal economy.
