Shafaqna English– The Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) has announced plans to launch a new tourism project titled: “Oasis of the Commander of the Faithful” in the northern greenbelt area, aiming to serve as a comprehensive recreational destination for both citizens and pilgrims.
According to Shafaqna, Engineer Razzaq Al-Ta’i, Head of the Agriculture Department at the Shrine, said in an interview: “This project has begun under the direct order of Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, the custodian of the Holy Shrine. He recently conducted a field visit to the project site along with other officials from the shrine, during which the progress of the work was reviewed and several technical recommendations were made to ensure the project’s success and its alignment with the environmental and tourism features of the region.”
He added:“We have practically started work on the first oasis of this project, and we are carefully implementing the instructions and suggestions of the respected custodian. We hope that the Oasis of the Commander of the Faithful will become a leading model for tourism complexes in Karbala and a vibrant recreational space for citizens and visitors.”
He explained that “the opening of this oasis is the first step in creating a series of oases in the greenbelt area, with the aim of enhancing the environmental and tourism aspects of the province.”
Al-Ta’i also noted: “This project is one of the most prominent initiatives the Imam Hussain Shrine plans to implement in the coming year. Its objectives include improving the city’s environmental and tourism situation, providing a complete recreational space for residents and pilgrims, strengthening vegetation cover, combating desertification in Karbala, creating a safe and suitable tourism environment for families and pilgrims, supporting domestic tourism by offering advanced facilities in a clean and sustainable environment, and generating job opportunities for locals through the operation and services of the oases.”
He concluded: “The official opening of the first oasis in this project is expected in the coming months or next year, following the completion of implementation phases and full compliance with the recommendations provided by Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai. This project represents an advanced model of tourism complexes with an Islamic and environmental character.”
