Can the presents given during engagement period be taken back? The Grand Ayatollah Shahroodi’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shahroodi answered a question about taking back presents given during engagement period.

Question: A man and a woman are engaged, and have exchanged presents during engagement period, but after a while the engagement is broken up. Can they get back the presents and why?

The Grand Ayatollah Shahroodi: Any present which remains without any change can be taken back. And the present which has been perished or has been changed for example the cloth which has been sewn cannot be taken back.
