Shafaqna English– A Quran was burned and placed outside a Mosque in the south-eastern commune of France.
CMR said in a statement that someone entered the prayer room overnight on Sunday (01 June 2025), set the Muslim holy book on fire, and placed it outside the Mosque in the Villeurbanne commune before fleeing.
“This vile act is part of a series of hateful assaults that reflect a worrying and increasingly hostile climate towards Muslim citizens in France,” said CMR. It said it was “Islamophobic” in nature with “appalling cowardice.”
Police arrest man after the suspected Quran burning at French Mosque
A man suspected of burning a copy of the Quran inside a mosque in Villeurbanne, near Lyon, France, was arrested late on Tuesday evening, authorities have said.
The man is described as “psychologically fragile” by both the prosecutor and a police source. The suspect reportedly entered the Mosque with the intent to steal and then set a copy of the Quran on fire before fleeing the scene.
