Study Finds Black Coffee Linked To Longer Life

Shafaqna English- A new study from Tufts University suggests that drinking one to three cups of caffeinated coffee per day may reduce the risk of early death, especially from cardiovascular disease. The research, published in The Journal of Nutrition, analyzed data from over 46,000 USA adults and found that moderate coffee consumption was linked to up to a 17% lower risk of all-cause mortality.

However, the benefits were only observed when coffee was consumed black or with low amounts of added sugar and saturated fat. Adding more than half a teaspoon of sugar or high-fat cream to an 8-ounce cup appeared to cancel out the health advantages.

Researchers say the findings support existing dietary guidelines that recommend limiting added sugars and saturated fats. While the study was observational and based on self-reported data, it highlights that how you take your coffee might be just as important as how much you drink.
