SHAFAQNA– The office of the Grand Ayatollah Sistani has issued a statement expressing deep concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for immediate action by Islamic countries and the international community to end the crisis.
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
After nearly two years of relentless killing and destruction resulting in hundreds of thousands of martyrs and injured, and the complete devastation of cities and residential areas; the oppressed people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip are now facing extremely dire and unbearable conditions. This is especially due to the severe shortage of food, which has led to widespread famine, affecting even children, the sick, and the elderly.
While such horrific brutality from the occupying forces, as part of their ongoing efforts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, is sadly not unexpected, what is expected is that countries around the world particularly Arab and Islamic nations must not allow this massive humanitarian disaster to continue.
Instead, they must re-double their efforts to end it and exert every possible pressure on the occupying regime and its supporters to open humanitarian corridors and allow the delivery of food and other essential supplies to defenseless civilians as quickly as possible.
The harrowing scenes of widespread hunger in Gaza, broadcast by the media, should not allow any person of conscience to eat or drink in peace just as Amir-al-Mu’minin Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) said when describing the oppression of a woman in the Islamic lands: “If a Muslim dies of grief after such an incident, it would not be blameworthy—in fact, in my view, it would be entirely appropriate.”
