Shafaqna English- Vietnam and Malaysia ramping up economic cooperation to capitalize on the booming global Halal market, projected to hit $5 trillion by 2030, experts revealed at a recent seminar in HCM City, according to the Vietnam News.
Held under the theme “Export Prospects to the Halal Market through the Malaysia Gateway in 2025”, the event highlighted how Vietnam is positioning itself as a credible player in the global Halal supply chain through government-backed initiatives and strategic partnerships.
Bilateral trade between the two nations has doubled in a decade, reaching $14.2 billion in 2024, with a target of $25 billion by 2030. However, experts noted several hurdles for Vietnamese SMEs, including limited access to Halal- Certification and high compliance costs.
Malaysia, recognized as a global Halal hub, offers Vietnamese firms a robust platform to access international markets, supported by infrastructure, expertise, and trade networks like MATRADE. The recent recognition of Vietnam’s Halal Certification Authority by Malaysia’s JAKIM marks a major milestone in facilitating smoother market entry.
Experts also called for the development of Halal industrial parks, certification digitization using blockchain, and the launch of a national “Vietnam Halal-Certified” brand to boost global competitiveness.
The event was co-organized by ITPC, the Malaysian Consulate General in HCM City, and MATRADE, offering Vietnamese businesses insights into certification, export strategies, and upcoming opportunities like the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) this September.
