Shafaqna English- Regina hosted its first-ever Halal Fest at the Darul Falah Islamic Centre, aiming to celebrate Muslim culture, food, and faith while fostering community understanding, according to CTV News.
For the first time in the city’s history, Regina welcomed Halal Fest on Saturday (16 Aug 2025), an event designed to showcase Islamic traditions and create dialogue with the broader community. Organized by a team of 10 volunteers, the festival featured cultural displays, Quran education, and food stalls, with Halal cuisine drawing the biggest crowds.
Local Halal food truck “Taste and Twist” debuted at the event, offering dishes like chicken hotdogs, poutine, and AAA steak. Owner Habib, originally from Bangladesh, said the festival was an important opportunity to explain Halal practices and clear misconceptions.
Aasif Bulbulia, youth and community engagement officer at the Darul Falah Islamic Centre, emphasized the festival’s role in building bridges at a time of increasing polarization. “We recognize there may be many misconceptions about Islam,” he said. “We believe it is necessary to foster deeper understanding so that we can strengthen bonds within our communities.”
With Regina’s Muslim population at around 20,000, organizers hope Halal Fest will become an annual tradition, potentially expanding to a larger venue in the future.
