India: Teacher left her village due to harassment

Shafaqna English- A Muslim woman from Karnataka’s Bhimasandra village near Tumakuru city allegedly faced abuse and was expelled from the village.

The teacher identified as Reshma was assigned to conduct a socio-economic and educational census survey by the Permanent Commission for Backward Classes.

Reportedly, Reshma, who went door to door to carry out the survey, faced harassment and verbal abuse at the hands of villagers who questioned her presence and asked for her ID.

The media reports emerging about the incident reveal that Reshma was asked, “Why are you coming to Hindus homes?”

Several locals allegedly subjected her to Islamophobic slurs and asked her if her intention behind coming was to include the Hindus in her community. Reshma was eventually forced to leave the village due to abuse and slurs by locals.
