Shafaqna English- Vietnamese exporters are set to gain new opportunities in Malaysia’s lucrative Halal market as Melaka state moves to establish a Halal Industry Development Council aimed at streamlining investment and certification procedures, according to Vietnam News.
Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said the new council will fast-track investor entry and Halal-Certification approvals, reducing bureaucracy. The move is expected to help Vietnamese firms overcome certification hurdles and strengthen their presence in Melaka and across the regional Halal economy.
Vietnam–Malaysia trade has grown steadily, reaching more than $12 billion in the first nine months of this year, up 12.9% year on year, though Vietnam recorded a $4.29 billion trade deficit.
Ngô Quang Hưng, Vietnam’s Trade Representative in Malaysia described Malaysia as a promising but competitive market, noting strong demand and consumer preferences similar to Vietnam’s. However, he said that Halal-Certification remains the key obstacle for Vietnamese exporters aiming to expand in this Muslim-majority market.
