UNAMA calls on international community to renew its support for Afghanistan

Shafaqna English- On United Nations Day, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) called on the international community to renew its support for the Afghan people. In a statement, UNAMA noted that Afghanistan is currently facing profound challenges, with nearly two-thirds of the population in need of humanitarian aid.

Expressing concern over declining funding, the mission warned that the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan is deteriorating, and that restrictions on education and employment are undermining the fundamental rights of people and the country’s future.

In the statement, UNAMA’s Acting Head, Georgette Gagnon, was quoted as saying: “Afghanistan’s path to stability and sustainable development cannot be walked alone.”

The mission emphasized that it will continue to engage with all stakeholders to support inclusive governance, protect human rights, and enhance international support for the Afghan people.

Deputy UNAMA Chief, Indrika Ratwatte, also called on the international community to renew its commitment and solidarity. “Today, tomorrow, and in the future, the United Nations will remain by the side of the Afghan people,” he said.
