Shafaqna English- Iraq has launched the first phase of the National Ambient Air Monitoring Center project to combat the intensifying pollution in Baghdad. The initiative aims to dramatically improve air quality monitoring by deploying new technology and incorporating European standards.
According to Director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement for the Central Region, the project will involve the rehabilitation of four existing standard air quality monitoring stations. Crucially, it will add 20 new monitoring stations strategically distributed across various Baghdad neighborhoods. The entire initial phase is being funded by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), with additional support from the Ministry’s Environmental Protection Fund.
