Shafaqna English- The UN’s Special Rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar stated that the international community has failed to address an “invisible crisis” in the country.
Tom Andrews, speaking at a news conference following the presentation of his report to the UN’s General Assembly’s Third Committee, said the situation in Myanmar has become “exponentially worse over the course of these four-plus years since the coup” in February 2021.
“The humanitarian conditions in Myanmar are significantly worse this year than when I reported them to the United Nations last year,” he said, noting that nearly 22 million people now require humanitarian aid and 16.7 million face acute food insecurity.
