Climate change threatens Iraq’s ancient cities

Shafaqna English- Climate change is greatly impacting ancient cities in southern Iraq, erasing thousands of years of history.

According to Reuters, Iraqi officials are voicing worries, emphasizing the urgent need to prevent monuments representing the cradle of civilization from vanishing.

Drought and severe weather conditions contribute to increased soil salinity, which causes harm to ancient sites.

Several historical sites in ancient towns such as Ur, where the Biblical patriarch Abraham was born, and Babylon, which was once an important imperial metropolis, are endangered.
