Shafaqna English- Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Saturday (01 Nov 2025) that 550,000 Syrian refugees have returned to their country since the fall of Bashar Assad’s government.
According to Al-Arabiya, Turkish authorities say about 2.4 million Syrians remain in Türkiye; a decrease from 3.5 million at the height of the Syrian war.
The UN’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported on Friday that since 08 December 2024, a total of 1.16 million Syrians have returned to their homeland, while 1.9 million internally displaced persons have also gone back to their places of origin.
Despite these returns, over 7 million Syrians remain displaced within the country, and around 4.5 million continue to live as refugees abroad. The Syrian civil war, which began in 2011, has caused one of the largest displacement crises in modern history.
