Commentary on Imam Sajjad’s (AS) Treaties of Right (Part 43)

Shafaqna English- Commentary on Imam Sajjad’s (AS) Treaties of Right By Mohammad Sobhanie.

The Right of Adviser (Part 43)

Translation: The advisor’s rights incumbent upon the person seeking his advice are to approach him with humility, an open heart, and an open mind to truly understand his guidance. It is important to reflect on the advice presented. If the advice resonates, he should thank God for it, accept it graciously, and acknowledge the advisor for its worth.

However, if the advice does not align with his perspective, he should refrain from getting upset or accusing the advisor of providing poor counsel. Instead, he should consider that the advisor made every effort to offer sound advice, but there may have been a lapse in the advisor’s judgment. Unless he has good reason to believe that the advisor deserves criticism, in which case, he should not trust him under any circumstances. Ultimately, there is no power except through God.

Commentary:

The rights of the advisor incumbent on the client seeking his advice are as follows:

  1. The client should humbly listen to the advisor with an open mind to fully understand the advice and reflect on it.
  2. If the advice resonates with him, he should praise God, accept the advice, and acknowledge the advisor for its value.
  3. If the advice does not align with the client’s view, he should not get upset or accuse the advisor of giving him ill advice.
  4. He should assume the advisor did his best to offer valuable advice, but that the advisor made a mistake. Unless he has good reason to believe that the advisor deserves criticism, in which case, he should not trust him under any circumstances.
