Shafaqna English- Iraqis go to the polls to elect a new parliament in the sixth such vote since USA-led invasion toppled dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003.
More than 7,740 candidates, nearly a third of whom are women, will compete for 329 parliament seats. More than 21 million voters are eligible.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 am (0400 GMT) and are due to remain open until 6:00 pm (1500 GMT), with preliminary results expected within 24 hours of closing.
Iraq’s Interior Minister: All Polling Centers Fully Secured
Interior Minister Al-Shammari confirmed on Tuesday (11 Nov 2025) that all polling centers in Baghdad and other provinces are fully secured, noting the presence of security forces across the country and a comprehensive plan for transporting ballot boxes and memory sticks.
Al-Shammari told INA that security personnel are present at polling stations throughout the four-day election period. He added that roads remain open to citizens and urged Iraqis to participate in the elections.
He explained that an integrated security plan is in place to transport ballot boxes and memory sticks after voting concludes, supervised by the Higher Security Committee overseeing the elections.
