Iraqi voter turnout rises to 55%

Shafaqna English- Iraq’s electoral commission announced a voter turnout exceeding 55 percent in Tuesday’s (11 Nov 2025) general election, a surprisingly high figure.

The figure is based on the results in most of the polling stations, the commission said, adding that more than 12 million people voted out of over 21 million eligible voters. The unexpected turnout is a sharp jump from the record low of 41 percent in 2021.

Iraq announces public holiday to ease post-election operations

Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani authorized the suspension of official working hours in all government departments and institutions, with the exception of groups assigned continuing responsibilities, to allow for the completion of post-election processes.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the initiative intends to provide the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and security services enough time to finish the transfer of ballot boxes and finalize the evacuation of schools that served as voting stations.
