Cold weather-heavy rain continue to impact displaced Gazans

Shafaqna English| by Leila Yazdani- The UN’s reports that humanitarian partners in Gaza are increasing their winter preparation efforts due to the cold weather and heavy rain affecting displaced Palestinians.

More than 230,000 families, that’s around 1.15 million people received monthly food parcels between 1 and 27 November through 59 distribution points including 21 in northern Gaza.

Shelter partners distributed over 8,800 blankets and more than 300 tents, with additional tarpaulins and mattresses arriving this week.

Site management teams warn that flooding remains a major risk. Sandbags have been deployed to 41 displacement sites, while cash-for-work teams have been reinforcing drainage and collecting empty flour sacks to improve insulation.

From war to winter: Gaza couple wait to welcome baby in flooded tent

Samar and Abdulrahman had everything ready for their new baby. But the rains have ruined their plans as they try to survive in Gaza.

The first heavy rain of the winter season arrived not as a blessing, but as a new catastrophe for Samar al-Salmi and her family.

Early in the morning, torrents of water crashed through their worn-out tent in a displacement camp, jolting them awake as the ground beneath them turned into a muddy pool.

All around them, displaced people scrambled to repair what the rain had destroyed, filling waterlogged holes with sand and lifting drenched mattresses into the weak winter sun. For 35-year-old Samar, the timing could not have been worse. She is due to give birth imminently, and everything she has prepared for her new born daughter was drenched.
