Iraq’s official illiteracy rate stands at 15.3%

Shafaqna English- Executive Directorate for Literacy in Iraq has announced that the country’s illiteracy rate stands at 15.3% according to the national population census.

The directorate confirmed it will target approximately 100,000 learners during the current academic year through its literacy centers nationwide and accelerated education schools.

Director of Technical Affairs at the Directorate, Wisam Nahidh Abboud told state news agency that Iraq had no official illiteracy percentage until the latest census, as previous figures were based only on international surveys that lacked sufficient accuracy.
