Shafaqna English- As USA’s President Trump escalated his threats of invading Venezuela this week, activists across the USA swiftly mobilized to oppose war.
Led by dozens of groups, including the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism), Code Pink, Veterans for Peace, and the Palestinian Youth movement, thousands of people in 65 cities and towns across the USA took to the streets on 6 December.
Holding signs in English and Spanish, demonstrators chanted anti-war slogans and spoke about similarities to the lead-up to the USA’s invasion of Iraq 22 years ago, an unpopular war later revealed to be based on faulty intelligence.
The gatherings come days after the USA attacked a small boat near Venezuela, followed by another attack on survivors of the vessel, actions that many elected officials are describing as a war crime.
