UN: Iraq crossed into high human development category

Shafaqna English- Iraq has crossed into the high human development category for the first time in its history, according to the United Nations.

In a statement received by Iraqi News, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said that the Iraqi government, represented by the Ministry of Planning and in cooperation with UNDP has launched the National Human Development Report for 2025.

The report titled: “Citizenship and Shaping a New Social Contract,” marks what UNDP described as a turning point for Iraq. It reflects the country’s shift from years of crises toward a phase of sustainable progress.

According to the report, Iraq’s Human Development Index reached 0.712 in 2024. This level surpasses the Arab regional average and places Iraq for the first time among countries with high human development, highlighting the nation’s resilience and recovery.
