Shafaqna English- The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has unveiled a five-year Halal Industry Development Plan aimed at positioning the region as a competitive hub in the global halal market, with halal tourism identified as a key driver of sustainable economic growth, according to Travel and Tour World.
Launched on December 16, the Bangsamoro Halal Industry Development Plan (BHIDP) for 2025–2030 is led by the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism (MTIT) in coordination with other BARMM agencies. The strategy targets the fast-growing global halal economy—valued at over US$2 trillion—by strengthening the region’s halal value chain across tourism, food, agriculture, logistics and services.
MTIT Minister Farserina Mohammad said the plan aligns economic development with BARMM’s cultural and Islamic identity, while creating opportunities for investment, job generation and regional competitiveness. Halal tourism is a central pillar, focusing on Muslim-friendly destinations, accommodations and services that reflect the region’s heritage and natural attractions.
The plan also emphasizes inclusive growth, sustainability and skills development to ensure local communities, including women and youth, benefit from the expansion of the halal industry. Over the next five years, BARMM aims to establish itself as a regional hub for halal tourism, products and services in Southeast Asia.
