Shafaqna English- Muslim student nurses who wear the hijab during clinical placements encounter various challenges related to the visibility of their faith and vague guidance on clinical and infection control practices. A university in UK conducted a mixed-methods study to explore these students’ experiences and gather their opinions on a uniform-compliant hijab.
Based on the feedback received, the university designed and piloted a uniform hijab, which received mostly positive responses. However, some students expressed a preference for continuing to wear their own hijabs. The uniform hijab is now available as an option for students who wish to wear it.
