New Danish Muslim (Lene Matteson): Sublime Status of Women in Islam Attracted Me

SHAFAQNA- According to rahyafte: Speaking at a program held at the 21st International Holy Quran Exhibition, Lene Matteson from Denmark added that Muslim women have far more rights than those in European and American countries.

The program was held on Saturday night, July 27, at the Rahyaftegan (those who found the right path) Section of the exhibition.
She said in the West, a woman’s value is in her appearance whereas in Islam women’s value is in their faith, moral virtues and character.
“After embracing Islam, I felt free, I felt that I was no longer in prison,” the Danish Muslim said.
“I have been a Muslim for 19 years and I thank God that guided me to embrace Shia Islam. God, the Almighty, guided me to this path and fortunately I became Muslim.”
Lene, renamed Samira Khadem, said her life got in its true path when her future husband, an Iranian young man, migrated to Denmark and started doing his Islamic worshipping in a church.
Lene said she learned about the man from the daughter of the church’s pastor and got interested to know about his beliefs and his faith.
She noted that the young man later established a Hosseiniya (religious center) with the help of his Muslim friends.
“The center organized religious activities such as recitations of Komeyl and Tawassul supplications. It was the anniversary of Hazrat Zahra’s (SA) martyrdom that in the middle of Tawassul Supplication I had a special feeling and realized that I had been blessed by Hazrat Zahra (SA). It was then that I decided to become Muslim.”

She said after conversion, her family abandoned her but she was happy to pay the price because it was a test for her to show her steadfastness in faith.
Lene underlined that it was after embracing Islam that she started to really know Jesus Christ (AS).
“My family members are Protestant but they are not very religious and do not know much about their religion. Hence, it was only after conversion that I realized what a great prophet Jesus (AS) was.”
Elsewhere in her remarks, Lene pointed to the publication of anti-Islamic cartoons in a Danish newspaper in 2005 and repetition of the insulting move later on, saying that she was angry at the move and that the country’s Muslims staged a rally in protest to the desecration and tried to introduced Islam and the sublime character of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
She further said that she is currently honored to be a servant of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad and that she translates Shia books into Danish language.
Lene is also active in introducing the school of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) to Danish people through cultural programs.
She went on to say that there are around 100,000 Muslims in Denmark and the number of Muslims is rising in the country, especially since 9/11 incident that prompted people to more about Islam.
