Shafaqna English– According to the Telegraph on Sunday(7 Jun 2026), the White House is weighing a plan to purchase the Chagos Islands from Mauritius.
The report said U.S. officials have drafted a proposal to bypass the UK and strike their own deal to take control of Diego Garcia.
The plan is one of several options the White House is preparing in a paper aimed at offering alternatives to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer handing over sovereignty of the Indian Ocean archipelago to Mauritius.
