Shafaqna English– Asian shares saw modest gains on Tuesday(16 Jun 2026), extending the previous day’s rally fueled by a U.S.-Iran peace agreement, while market participants digested the Bank of Japan’s rate hike to a 31-year high, which had been largely expected.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 rallied 0.6%, briefly breaking through the 70,000-point barrier to set a new all-time record. This came after the central bank voted 7-1 to lift its benchmark rate to 1%, its highest since 1995. The yen was flat against the dollar, trading at 160.31.
