Senegal took on France backed by expatriate fans

Shafaqna English– On Tuesday(16 Jun 2026), immigrant and international fans filled the stands in place of Senegal’s supporters back home, as the African giants fell 3-1 to France in their World Cup opener, with many of their usual fans unable to travel to the United States.

After reports emerged that some Senegalese fans were denied U.S. visas for the tournament, coach Pape Thiaw said he was counting on the team’s American-based supporters to raise their voices at New York New Jersey Stadium.
