Shafaqna English- Ruben Vargas calmly converted the crucial penalty to give Switzerland a 4–3 shootout victory over Colombia, following a scoreless 120 minutes. The win sent the Swiss to their first World Cup quarter-final since 1954, where they will face defending champions Argentina.
Switzerland gained the upper hand in the shootout after Gregor Kobel saved Cucho Hernandez’s penalty, with Davinson Sanchez having previously hit the woodwork for Colombia.
