Ceremony on anniversary of Ayatollah Bahjat’s demise in Qom

SHAFAQNA – A ceremony will be held in the Iranian holy city of Qom later this week to commemorate the late Shia source of emulation grand Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Bahjat.

The memorial service will be hosted by the city’s Azam Mosque after Maghrib and Isha prayers on Thursday.

Grand sources of emulation, religious scholars, and members of the country’s Assembly of Experts are expected to attend the program.

Born in Foman, northern Iran in 1916, Ayatollah Bahjat was among the most revered Iranian clerics whose religious decrees were followed by many Shia Muslims.

He was a top Shia cleric well-known for his piety and the strict observance of the principles of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

He passed away at the age of 94 in Qom in May 2009.
