MIHAS 2026 opens global market pathways for Sarawak’s halal brands

Shafaqna English- Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 is creating new opportunities for Sarawakian halal businesses to reach international buyers and integrate into the global halal supply chain, with market access remaining a key challenge for small and medium-sized enterprises in the state, according to TVS.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Export Acceleration, S. Jai Shankar, said MIHAS is helping address market-entry barriers through targeted trade initiatives, including a dedicated Sarawak Pavilion where local producers can present their products directly to international buyers.

He said Sarawak’s biodiversity and natural resources give the state significant potential in the halal sector, particularly as halal products increasingly overlap with demand for natural, organic and sustainable goods.

MATRADE is also encouraging Sarawakian companies to join international trade missions, including MIHAS @ Shanghai, to connect with buyers in China. The agency is working with the Sarawak Government to organize Sarawak Export Day, aimed at strengthening trade networks and creating new export opportunities.

To reduce market-entry costs and commercial risks, MATRADE provides market mapping, trade infrastructure and its International Sourcing Programme, which connects local suppliers with pre-screened overseas buyers.

Businesses can also access market intelligence and industry updates digitally through MATRADE’s Knowledge Hub and MATRADE Digital Trade Platform.

Shankar said Sarawak could position its halal products in the premium market by combining halal certification with environmental sustainability and ESG standards.

The initiatives support the Sarawak Halal Industry Development Plan 2026–2030, which seeks to establish Sarawak as a leading halal hub in Borneo.
