Shafaqna English– In a striking display of collective action, six Nordic football associations came together on Sunday to publicly repudiate Gianni Infantino’s presidency, voicing their complete lack of confidence in his ability to lead FIFA.
The Nordic bloc also seized the opportunity to demand urgent and wide-ranging governance overhauls, adding their powerful voice to the growing chorus of criticism directed at the world football body’s leadership and its decision-making processes.
Representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands gathered in Helsinki for a summit that produced an unusual joint declaration.
The statement formally endorsed the calls for Infantino’s resignation that had already been voiced by three of FIFA’s regional confederations, marking a significant escalation in the pressure being applied to the beleaguered president.
