Shafaqna English– The findings of a new opinion poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos indicate that most US citizens are opposed to the measures taken by President Trump last week—specifically, the imposition of higher tariffs on goods coming from Canada and the controversial directive to officially rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”
Conducted over a three-day period ending Sunday, the survey reveals that US citizens are growing concerned about the escalating dispute with Canada, their neighbor and longtime top trade ally. This anxiety has deepened after trade talks between the two countries reached an impasse and the president proceeded with his plan to increase levies on Canadian imports.
The poll results further reveal that only one-fifth of respondents backed the higher tariffs on Canadian imports, while a substantial majority of 57% opposed the move, and 21% remained undecided. Additionally, roughly 20% of those surveyed were unaware of the recent developments altogether.
