Shafaqna English– Christoph Ammann has been named by the Swiss government as the next president of the SNB’s Bank Council, the governing body responsible for supervising the central bank’s activities. Effective May 1, 2027, he succeeds Barbara Janom Steiner, who is retiring after holding the position since 2019, as she has completed the maximum allowable tenure.
Ammann brings extensive experience from his previous roles in the Bern cantonal government, where he led the economic affairs department, and has served on the Bank Council since 2019. While the Bank Council monitors compliance with laws and regulations, it has no authority over monetary policy decisions.
