Shafaqna English– A major U.S. automotive industry group, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing companies like GM, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, and Stellantis, has urged Congress to pass legislation permanently banning Chinese vehicles, software, and hardware from the U.S. market before year’s end.
In a letter to lawmakers, alliance CEO John Bozzella warned that Chinese automakers are already subsidizing and exporting connected vehicles globally, and he called for swift action to prevent a similar threat in the U.S. Although the Senate Commerce Committee approved a tougher ban in July, final passage remains uncertain, with lawmakers debating provisions related to foreign ownership thresholds and national security concerns.
Beijing has opposed the effort, while some companies like Polestar face imminent exclusion, and broader rules could extend to technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi due to data collection risks.
