Shafaqna English– Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, is scheduled to announce on Monday a significant increase in European Union investment flows directed toward Greenland, alongside a parallel initiative to deepen political cooperation with the autonomous Danish territory.
This strategic move comes in direct response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that Greenland rightfully belongs to the United States, a claim that has heightened geopolitical tensions in the Arctic region.
Sunday marked the arrival of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Greenland for a two‑day itinerary that serves as a powerful gesture of backing for the governments in Nuuk and Copenhagen.
Both capitals have firmly opposed Trump’s annexation campaign, and von der Leyen’s presence is designed to reinforce their collective resistance to U.S. expansionist ambitions in the Arctic.
