Shafaqna English– Gianni Infantino, the head of world soccer’s governing body, was in Katowice on Saturday for the opening match of the U‑20 Women’s World Cup.
However, when asked whether he regretted his abandoned bid to sell a share of the World Cup, the FIFA president offered no comment, skillfully sidestepping the issue.
This tournament marks the first major event to be staged by FIFA, the global governing body of football, since its Swiss president decided to withdraw the controversial proposal.
The abandoned initiative had placed an estimated value of $20 billion on the combined commercial rights of the World Cup and various other FIFA competitions, making its cancellation a significant turning point for the organisation.
