Shafaqna English– Monday’s(7 Sep 2026) release of Lloyds’ monthly house price figures revealed that British home prices fell on an annual basis for the first time in nearly three years, with the August data pointing to a significant slowdown.
The decline reflected a cautious stance among buyers, many of whom chose to delay purchases amid surging interest rates and financial uncertainty stemming from the geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
The house price index compiled by Lloyds, which was formerly published under the Halifax brand, registered a 0.4% year‑on‑year decrease in August—the first negative annual reading since November 2023.
This outcome contrasted sharply with the median forecast from economists surveyed by Reuters, who had anticipated a 0.2% increase, underscoring the extent to which market conditions have soured.
