Shafaqna English– Google and Cathay Pacific are broadening trials of an AI system that helps pilots avoid contrails—ice trails that trap heat. After an initial 40% reduction in warming impact from 80+ flights, the second phase will expand across Asia and the Pacific.
Cathay is the first Asia-Pacific airline to adopt this Google technology and the first worldwide to use it on ultra-long-haul routes. Since contrails may contribute a third of aviation’s climate footprint, the companies are focusing on AI as a practical tool using existing aircraft and fuel.
