MIHAS 2026: Malaysia expands global halal trade

Shafaqna English- Malaysia will showcase its growing influence in the global halal economy at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026, opening Sept. 23 in Kuala Lumpur and bringing together businesses, buyers and investors from more than 45 countries, according to Financial Express.

Held under the theme “Shaping Trust, Driving Resilience,” MIHAS 2026 is being expanded to connect Malaysian exporters with international buyers and partners across 14 sectors, including food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, Islamic finance, modest fashion, personal care, technology, logistics and Muslim-friendly tourism.

Malaysia expects its halal market to reach around RM523.5 billion ($113 billion) by 2030, with the sector projected to contribute about 11% of national GDP. The country has also set a target of raising halal exports to RM80 billion.

Organizers expect MIHAS 2026 to feature around 2,380 booths and 45,000 visitors, with a targeted trade value of RM4.5 billion. Business-matching programs, including the International Sourcing Programme and Hosted Buyer Programme, will seek to connect Malaysian companies directly with international markets.

Malaysia’s halal leadership extends beyond food production. The country has built an integrated ecosystem combining halal standards and certification, Islamic finance, manufacturing, trade promotion, government institutions and international market access. Malaysia ranked first in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator in the 2025–26 State of the Global Islamic Economy report.

For Bangladesh and other South Asian countries, the September exhibition offers an opportunity to access Malaysia’s market and use the country as a gateway to the wider ASEAN region. Potential areas include garments, jute products, processed foods, spices, footwear, leather, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Bangladesh has participated in MIHAS for years and presented a national pavilion at the 2025 edition. Participation in the 2026 showcase could further expand opportunities for exports, joint ventures, technology partnerships, manufacturing and investment.

As MIHAS 2026 approaches, Malaysia is positioning the annual September showcase not merely as a trade exhibition, but as a global platform for halal business, investment and market expansion.
